Arts and Ecology is one of the major projects being run at the RSA, a society of leading professionals and practical thinkers dedicated to promoting social progress and working for a more just and environmentally sustainable world. The RSA has long been on the cutting edge of combatting climate change, first offering a prize for reducing industrial smoke emissions in the year 1770. Arts and Ecology, a partnership with Arts Council England is examining and addressing the environmental emergencies of the 21st century through the engagement of artists. In the autumn of 2007 the RSA launched three new strands of the Arts and Ecology project, inviting Manning Camerata to be an associate in Arts and Ecology Exchanges, animating the debate on how we might live more sustainably. Camerata is currently the first British Classical music group to be explicit in their aims to be a sustainable organisation. Our administration reuses rather than recycles, offsets its carbon when flying, travels by train whenever possible, uses only carbon neutral suppliers if we have to produce new materials and tries to conduct most of its business in a paperless environment. We also encourage all who work with us to take stock of their own carbon emissions, by signing up to the RSA Carbonlimited project . |
